Fact

This is not my... Quote

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

How hard is it to live in an ethical way?

In this section we ask you to challenge us to make certain lifestyle changes each week.

Though the intention is that these changes will lead to better living we are not opposed to attempting anything providing it is legal and technically possible!

Week Nine: Jump Around - Get up get up and get down

Spring is in the air and it is time to shake off the winter blues. There has been talk about exercise amongst the This is not my... team for sometime but it hasn't yet turned into action.

Exercise makes you happier - gets the endorphins going - is a great way of spending time with people - makes you healthier and doesn't have to cost a thing. Is it hard to get motivated though?

Ollie

Ollie keeps trying to insist that he was basically a kung fu master! Despite the fact that this is, in any case, a slight exaggeration the word to note in that sentence is - WAS!

Monday

With spring in the air and the light streaming into my room, now from the sun and not just the street lights. I found it no trouble in bounding out of bed this morning to do some sit ups / push ups and a little Kung fu.

I kept up this fiery start by walking around a park near work twice briskly after my lunch (must admit I felt like a cheesy golden oldy out on a power walk minus the shell suit).

Upon arriving home I dodged my wine drinking fun loving flatmates to get changed straight into some gear to go running.

I was met with much laughter upon walking into the kitchen.

"Obviously" board shorts and old skate shoes are not common running attire among my wine guzzling running experts of house mates.

Before I could grab the bottle of wine and kick back I hurled myself out the door into the cold night, feeling like a million dollars and I hadn't even got home yet...

Tuesday

I bounced out of bed this morning and did my push ups and crunches before a shower and breakfast.

I spent my entire lunch break unintentionally power walking around Bond Street and Regent St Looking for a Abbey National only to discover one right around the corner from my work on the other side I had walked from, doh! Still some unexpected exercise thrown into my day.

Though I could hardly make it up the eight flights of stairs to my flat, I didn't let myself sit down I just changed stretched and went for a run around the park.

I can do this, I thought, and managed to run for forty minutes without stopping till I discovered some painful blisters on the soles of my feet. Oh so that's why people don't run in old skate shoes!!

Came home to a berating from my flatmates that you can't just start from no running to forty minutes flat out. I shut them up by telling them I was training for death match and that if they didn't support me in my efforts demise would be on there heads, it was quite a fabrication of the truth but it did shut them up!

Wednesday

I will run for a pubs last orders, I might run for a girl, sometimes I will run for a bus, but can I keep running just to keep fit?.

I contemplated this from self induced body cast that I have put myself into after the rather overzealous last two days of running.

But with the fantasy of training for death match fresh in my head I wrenched myself up and stretched my way into the day owwwwwwwwwww.

Unfortunately for my regime I am out tonight watching the Young Blood Brass band so won't be able to run.

I will hopefully be able to walk and maybe dance.

I am positive I will be able to drink though!

Susie

Although Susie exercises when out (by 'dancing' like an uncoordinated mad woman), she has been pretty busy and putting off her marathon training with worrying frequency.

Monday

Not the best excuse but I ate so much on Sunday night (well if Lara will make delicious Mousaka) that I was too full to get up and do exercise without feeling a bit ill.

I have signed up to do the Marathon des Sables next year - to be honest it is lucky that we have a year as training this evening consisted of a meeting to discuss how hard it will be!

I did walk for at least 7 miles throughout the day though?

Tuesday

All day sitting about but.... as luck would have it I did get lost this morning for half an hour somewhere in Regent's Park carrying 3 heavy bags.

Does that count even a bit...?

Wednesday

Went to the gig with Ollie - such an amazing band you have to go. Only problem was that - if you weren't there - most of the rest of London was.

Dancing was not much of an option unless you sort of jumped vertically so not as much exercise there as planned.

Luckily, though, I had been so shamed by yesterday's lack lustre effort that I had also dragged myself out to kick boxing. It was great and even worth hardly being able to type this morning as my arms are like jelly!

Thursday

Had planned to do a bit of exercise but got unexpectedly invited to a lecture by Ken Livingstone in the time I had set aside.

Totally fascinating talk on the decentralisation of energy but can't say it involved much jogging...

La has had one injury after another in the last few weeks. She is on the mend though and really keen to do some of the exercise she hasn't been able to for so long.

Monday

Oh my god, the endless hours of turmoil. Will one more candy really hurt me? Will a little piece of chocolate in the afternoon really settle on my hips? Sadly, I have been told that yes, this is true. It feels like forever since I have been trying to be healthy, and really, it has only been barely 12 hours since though biscuits last night. The pain, the torture! I hate being told that I should not do something or eat something because it always makes me want it more. I did my excercies this mroning, and went on the bike for half an hour. Plan on doing my excervices tonight too and no booze for me, so an hour of workout. not bad for a munchkin with bad knee.

Tuesday

Did my excercies as normal this morning, and went to the gym to do half an hour on the rowing machine. After I was done I noticed that my bad knee had swelled to about double the size. I asked the people in my office, and shockingly, this is not normal. It has gone done now, but that might be me done on the excercising too much for the week, or at least until pysio on Thursday. What sadness, maybe I should have some chocolate to compensate...

Wednesday

Does walking from Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street tube stations count as sufficient excercise?
