Angel or Devil?
How hard is it to live in an ethical way?
In this section we ask you to challenge us to make certain lifestyle changes each week.
Though the intention is that these changes will lead to better living we are not opposed to attempting anything providing it is legal and technically possible!

Week Five - It's all talk
Last weeks smiling challenge brought us a few odd looks but proved a nice way to get and spread a bit of good energy. Taking time to chat to people seems like the next step.
Perhaps we can get to know our neighbours a bit more. Maybe not first thing when people are half asleep/worrying they forgot to take the kids to school/too hung over to formulate sentences etc. but generally throughout the day.
SORRY SORRY THAT THIS PAGE HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS - TOOK ME A WEE WHILE TO FIX.

Ollie is a Kiwi so at an advantage. It seems that British people don't chat with strangers as much as other nations. He tends to go on a bit anyway... (Ha ha just kidding Ol.)
Monday
Feeding from my chronic lack of sleep I was feeling in one of my favourite manic moods. Which are always handy when putting yourself out there in the world to meet some strangers!
Had a quick chat with the very friendly London Underground guy on the gates who is always cracking jokes and smiling. I think he really appreciated someone taking the time to tell him they appreciated his fun nature and ability to make the daily drones taking the tube look up and smile!
Tuesday
Being a firm hater of Valentines day I had trouble keeping a smile on my face while being surrounded by the mushy couples gazing at each other. I had trouble smiling and was not going to break into conversation with any of them to give them my bitter take on the commercial day.
However meet some lovely strangers who I shot the breeze with at the this is not my...Valentines party that evening so that completely made up for it!
Wednesday
Feeling a little taxed from a late night before I was rather quiet on my way to work however had some good conversations with a couple of randoms from work a lovely tea lady and the night security guy who I have not once seen without a beaming grin on his face just the type of person you want to go and talk to.

Susie generally talks a lot (in the past, she has been used to send people to sleep). She gets struck with moments of immense embarrassment though so might not do as well as expected.
Monday
After sleeping for a majority of the weekend I woke with a renewed spring in my step.
I had to head for a meeting in town which I did singing all the way and greeting everyone I passed.
People looked at me a bit strangely but generally smiled back a lot which was all pretty nice really!
Tuesday
I guess the only strange people that I spoke too today were those at the Valentines Day party. Not strange so much as strangers should I say.
They were all very nice though.
Wednesday
Normally hang overs effect me in a very positive way. I try to be quite care free in life and when hung over I literally don't care about a lot of stuff so it is even easier.
That being said, today although this was the case, I was absolutely shattered and the energy required to engage in conversation was hard to find.
I smiled a lot and spoke to the guys at the tube and the man in the shop but other than that it was a bit of a lack lustre effort.
Thursday
So funny - I was just so chatty to the guy who rang to sell me a new phone service that he hung up on me!
Can't leave the hse cos of the gas man so have resorted to talking to people on the phone.
I have decided against being too much friendlier to the gas man as he has mentioned twice now how cosy my bed looks - hmmm
Friday
Ha ha - despite my best efforts not to be overly friendly with the gas man he has now asked for my hand in marriage.
Apparently, though he works very hard, I would be the one exhausted at the end of a weekend with him....
Deary dear.
Unusually, had to get a cab home last night and so chatted to the driver all the way.
He has offered to help me when I move house in a couple of months!
This 'more talking' thing really is good...

Lara is half fiery Pole, half reserved Brit and all crazed Canadian. With La - it could go any which way...
Monday
I am not shy meeting people on the phone, but in person, I dont do so well. This is not my type of challenge. I like my solitude in this mad place and I enjoy getting my head down and reading my book when I am on a bus or train, or whenever I get the chance.
I guess luckily for me, or all people taking london transport on my routes, I am in taxi's this week because of my skiing accident, so my choices of people to talk to you are limited.
I already talk to everyone at work, and the nice man in the corner shop where I get my haribo...and susie (even though sometimes i try not to ;) )
Tuesday
I am not good in the mornings before my coffee and before I have been fed ("a hungry pole is an angry pole"), I tried with my lovely taxi driver, but I was mumbling and he could not really understand me.
Wednesday
Still having the problem that I dont have much opportunity to speak to people that I dont already know except my taxi drivers. The few times that they have been able to speak English, they have been great.
This morning though when I was trying to explain to my driver that he had spent ten minutes driving in one huge big circle he got really upset and repeatedly said "I don't understand, I don't understand" and then proceeded to bang on the driving wheel with force. "I don't understand!".
Needless to say, did not say anything else for the duration of my 40 minute cab ride that should have only been 20.
The lesson learnt - some people really dont like being corrected by 5 foot canadian girls with a limp!
Thursday
I did not meet or speak to anyone yesterday. I could not go anywhere.
(Feeling a bit bad about this challenge for La now... S)
