How hard is it to live in an ethical way?
In this section we ask you to challenge us to make certain lifestyle changes each week.
Though the intention is that these changes will lead to better living we are not opposed to attempting anything providing it is legal and technically possible!

Week Seven
How hard is it to eat what's in season?
We have spoken on this web site in the past about how far our food has to travel to get on our plates. One way of avoiding all the food miles is to eat what is in season in Britain.
This week it is time to find out just how easy it is not to eat what we want when we want it.

Ollie is usually good at this kind of thing, although he is a terrible vegetarian. Fish is in season though, so maybe he will choose wisely..
Monday
I guess I thought this was going to be a walk in the park with a radish, I guess I should of guessed again. Arriving at the supermarket last night to realise that nothing I usually cook with is in season!!! Well it is if I am going by the seasons in Peru. But sadly London is where we are at so I have eat seasonaly from the UK. First up Veges well I handily already have an ample stock of radish's at home in the fridge (possibly from last season), I grab some purple headed broccoli, cod, bananas & carrots. Walking home I begin to wonder what strange and amazing dish I am going to invent with this crazy combination. A brocconanarrot pie comes to mind, then after a quick gag leaves it. So its Chilli Lemon cod, steamed broccoli with Soy sauce and some Kumara I had from last week (they had to be eaten is that really cheating?). All in all a mighty tasty dinner and not hard at all. That night I retired to bed with a angelic smile on my face.

Lucky little Miss S is getting home cooked food all week this week! I don't think it will be too hard convincing her mother to buy local and in season, I think it is more a matter of how much Susie really likes radishes?
Monday
In the wilds of Lincolnshire being fed by my parents and thought I would leave it a day at least before demanding a radish only diet (mostly as they will probably oblige!) . However, since my home made tomato soup was something my Mum had frozen can I get away with the argument that it might have been made when tomatoes WERE in season.... whenever that is
Tuesday
Went to my great Aunt's for lunch.
Are biscuits in season?

Lara likes to cook so again, this might be a good one for her. Sadly, the foods in season are cauliflower, kale, radishes and rhubarb - not her favourite. Lets see what she can do with it...
Monday
For one of the first times I think, instead of looking at the prices of what I was buying at the supermarket I looked at where it came from. I can't believe just how much food on the shelves come from Isreal, Peru and Thailand! It is insane. Saying that - does finishing up what is in the fridge count as what is in season? I had the purple spouting broccoli, white cabbage, onions, and carrots but I could not tell where the tofu came from, and I may have used the thai red curry paste in the fridge to make a stir fry. I have also had today a bit of a mango from Kent, pear from Dorset and a banana from the nerofen filled food bowl (hope you don't mind suse - thought they would be off by the time you get back, but I will replace them!x)
Tuesday
The day started mighty fine with a couple of cheeky in season bananas. Followed by some always in season tuna mayonaise and jacket potatos. Unfortunately I slipped when it came to dinner.
As the curry houses on Brick Lane were unable to inform as to what Vegetables they used were in season and no Sir we do not do a purple broccoli and radish Balti!
Wednesday
I have just looked at my Tuesday's day, and I thought, hhmmm, I don't remember going to Brick Lane yesterday. I remember eating some radish and shredded carrotts at the Thai Restaurant, and I defineatly don't remember eating in season bananas on their own. I hate bananas unless they are baked with chocolate or mushed into bread with peanut butter, or into porridge oats as I had for breakfast. I think Ollie may have gotten our names mixed up...
Thursday
Did not do so badly today. Just had my cabbage strewed with some apples, cider vinegar, brown sugar and onions. I am starting to like cabage! A bit disturbed with the purple headed brochili, are they meant to die your plate and go totally green when boiled?
