Fact

This is not my... Quote

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

Previous weeks

July - Ok, so it's quite a long countdown

But we'll get there in the end...

Sorry, sorry - the inability to do anything indoors on a computer when it is sunny outside has been a bit of a hindrance.

But we are getting there.

Slowly.

So get out there and enjoy the summer or - if it is raining / you are trying desperately to avoid work - why not join up to do some of the new DIY Nags set up by Anti-apathy.

Whichever way - please keep checking back in. Reckon it's going to be an August re-launch.

Hope you have a bleedin marvelous time till then xx

June - It's the final countdown

Not sure that we are renowned for keeping to deadlines....

But despite it taking a while we promise we have been working hard on the new site. (As well as getting a little bit distracted by having fun...)

On the home straight now though so stick with us!

After all - cue inspirational quote on perseverance - "the race is not always to the swift, but to those who keep on running."

And we like running.

(Well except La. Who would rather shop... but my word - she will keep going till she finds those shoes...)

Anyhow - back soon so take care in the meantime.

17 April - 1 May: Pausing for a spring clean

Can you help with new sites/ideas/rogue meanderings...?

Argh - bit of overload.

We are rebuilding and revamping the site and it is all getting quite busy.

So thought - rather than burble on here inanly - we would take a two week pause to focus entirely on the new things.

But - not before sticking up a plea for help!

Any suggestions of sites, companies, rogue meanderings to promote etc are all extremely welcome and much appreciated.

Please drop us a line at allsortsofthings@thisisnotmy.co.uk with any suggestions.

(Apologies in advance for any slackness in replying - this will most likely be due to general incompetence).

Otherwise have a great couple of weeks!

14/04/08 - Can I have

Another week off...

Went on holiday.

Took my computer in case of the urge to meander on here (Ollie and Lara are still tussling with the new site) but it didn't work.

And then I realised how nice it would be not to use a computer for a week and put it straight back in the bag.

Anyhow - come home, check the news and find that adverse weather conditions and the resulting rise in food prices are likely to put 100 million people into greater poverty.

And - at the same time - some strange people out there are paying £50 for coffee made out of poo....

Might go back again!

Suppose I should probably go to work though.

Have a brilliant start to the week.

04/04/08 - Deliberating

the unfeasible...

All of next week.

(Aka putting time aside to think of unlikely ideas and general stupidity.)

So may leave the breakdown of the 'Energy Revolution' report till later... when I've made it past page four.

But - in case anyone else is pondering the impossible - thought I would add my new favourite and suitably optimistic quote.

“Aerodynamically, the bumble bee shouldn't be able to fly, but the bumble bee doesn't know it so it goes on flying anyway.”
- Mary Kay Ash

Nice.

Have an amazing weekend.

03/04/08 - It's a sign

Time to turn the computer off...

Finally - the sun is out.

Brilliant!

But it is causing a couple of issues for me this very moment. Currently wincing at the screen through a pair of oversized sunglasses and finding it a bit tricky to write, read, or get distracted by rogue articles on sports played with the bodies of sheep (nasty...)

Therefore I shall head off to read 'Energy Revolution' which explains how the the world can be saved from general implosion.

And return tmrw with fascinating - but entirely stolen - insights.

Marvelous.

Have a lovely day soaking up the rays.

01/04/08 - And so

it begins...

The UN Climate Talks started again yesterday.

At the Bali Conference the participants agreed to creating a post Kyoto plan by the end of 2009 and the negotiating, plotting and planning kicked off in Thailand yesterday.

Keeping my fingers firmly crossed.

Other than that very important action... not sure what else to do about that at the minute but will keep track of what's going on.

Back here though there is still time to write to our MP's about the upcoming climate bill in the UK. (Check the FoE page for details.)

Have already sent an email but plotting some old fashioned pen to - recycled - paper.

Right after the diatribe coming the way of my mindblowingly incompetent insurance company. "I know it isn't your fault, Steve, (deep breath to preclude blood curdling scream) but when you said 'the Manager is looking into your claim' did you actually mean - 'I've lost your claim and after two months of holding on to unfortunate pan pipe tunes and pressing incorrect numbers on the touch dial key pad, you now have to start again'...?"

Anyhow - best be pottering along (calm, breathe, think of happy things, you're not on the phone now, breathe...)

Have a good one!

This Section

This section will be a daily, well - Monday to Friday daily, editorial. (Have to keep some time aside to keep up the ritual wine drinking / dancing as if being chased by bees.)

I promise to make it my mission to investigate something each day on exciting forays to find new stuff, fun stuff, ethical stuff and anything involving break dancing men with extremely toned physiques.

Let me know if you think of something I should go and visit or if you have any great ideas or information. (Any dodgy suggestions will be politely declined... or not so politely, depending entirely on what they are!)

For today, though, please just have a look below to find out how this whole thing came about. I hope that you are having a lovely morning.

See you tomorrow,

Background to This is not my...

Interview Picture

What is this site all about?

Well, as all good ventures do, it started in the pub with the ominous words "I know, why don't we...?"

What was different, though, was that it still seemed like a good plan in the morning (and somewhat less injurious than trying out extreme ironing, the other suggestion...)

Anyway - once again we had been supping beers and putting the world to rights when someone mentioned the unmentionable, despite our disaffection with the state of the world, none of us was actually doing anything positive to change it.

Whether this was complacency or apathy, who knows - but we were definitely leaving it to others to make decisions and take action for us on issues about which we felt strongly.

We live in a free society, but often things seem to happen as a fait accompli. The war in Iraq, ID cards, the fact that we will eventually succumb to watching some of Big Brother no matter how hard we try...

And we just go along with it. But that is ok, right? I mean, we aren't exactly encouraging the abuse of others - are we?

Ok - so maybe my new top might have been made under less-than-perfect conditions and I suppose that means I am supporting those conditions, but - I have to buy something to wear, so what other choice do I have?

And that was the problem. What - and where - are the choices?

So we decided to investigate. Surely in this free society we have other options; we just need to know how to find them.

So we went online. There are some great directories already for ethical and/or environmentally friendly products, but for us these didn't go far enough. We were on a bit of a roll and decided that these products deserved more active promotion.

We wanted to make as many people as possible aware of the practical things they can do to live life in a better way.

The point

So on this site we will provide information about easy, positive and ethical consumer choices. These are choices that won’t necessarily cost you more, either.

In our directories you will find environmentally friendly and ethical companies and products across the following categories:

Baby and Child

Clothes
Energy
Food and Drink
Health and Beauty
Home and Garden
Office
Recycling
Restaurants

Transport
Travel

You will also find plenty more to lure you back to the site on a regular basis. So come back to have a wee look.

Plus we will be working on video's, events and curious antics to keep important issues in the public eye – and provide us with much entertainment and amusement at the same time.

Give us a shout if you want to get involved!

Anyhow - take a look. Explore… investigate… probe away.

We hope you like it; we hope you use it.
